Diana Princess of Wales Awards previous     next

26 February 2010

On Friday 26th of February, I represented President David and the Rotary Club of Lincoln at the Diana Princess of Wales Awards (Diana Princess of Wales Awards) which were being presented in the chapter house of Lincoln cathedral.

This was an organisation and an event about which I knew nothing so I was curious as to what I might find. The awards were presented by the High Sheriff of Lincoln, The Lady Sarah McCorquodale, Dave Gauder, anti bullying campaigner and strongman and The Right Worshipful Mayor of Lincoln Councillor David Gratrick.

The three categories are:
1. Diana Award
For individuals aged 12–18 who make a sustained, selfless contribution to their community, and who demonstrate exceptional personal qualities.
2. Certificate of Excellence
For groups of young people aged 12–18 who have worked together to make their communities a better place to be.
3. Anti-Bullying Award
For individuals and groups of young people who have tackled bullying in their communities and schools.

The various contributions that the award winners, whom I saw and spoke to, were significant and self evident and to be admired and applauded in an age which seems so focused on the bad behaviour of modern youth.

I am hoping to be able to convince District and RIBI to suggest that clubs assist the Princess Diana Awards organisation by seeking out worthy candidates and, where necessary, helping with the nomination procedure, which is not particularly arduous.
